Growing up, Sicelo Ngubane was passionate about drama, as he grew in his love for drama, Sicelo attended much training. Even in Sibikwa, Market Theatre and got a job working in commercial theatre. When love life launched their “ground breaker” programme, Sicelo went for interviews and succeeded, got a job as a ground breaker… where he coordinated “debate”. After love life, he was recruited by Mr Mokoka Sechabela to work as a SAAYC volunteer. He was a performing arts coordinator. Where he served so well that he was afforded an opportunity to be part of YPASA (young people against the spread of aids). In time, there was a post within SAAYC for “Programmes Coordinator” for Ekurhuleni, Sicelo applied and got the job. His responsibility was to fill the centre with young people, so he created programmes that appealed to the youth. Young people could relate to the programmes and his charisma. He studied Citizen Leadership for democratic governance. During this time of studying Sicelo was called “president” due to his flamboyant nature. He was good as a participant that after he finished the programme, he was recruited to be part of the facilitators. He served as a co-facilitator for six months. In 2007 he got an opportunity to partake in young professionals exchange programme. This saw him going to work for 5 months at the Royal Netherlands. One of the programmes he was part of was engaging in discussion about creative fund raising, without approaching sponsors. One of their fundraising strategies was selling “hugs” at the mall. It was during these programmes that Sicelo met like-minded young people from all over the world. He served the Association until he resigned in 2009, the following year he received a call from Mr. Jeff Mkhwanazi, who recruited him back into the association. He returned to his position as Programmes Coordinator for Ekurhuleni. In the year 2011 there was a vacancy of centre manager in SAAYC Ekurhuleni Centre “Tshepo Themba Multipurpose Resource Centre”. As a young person who grew up in the centre Sicelo applied. Due to the association’s change of strategy he ended up landing a position as Provincial Coordinator for Gauteng East, North and Mpumalanga. This new position afforded him opportunity to facilitate workshops all over the country. He has worked with the NYDA in volunteer training all over the country. He is a dynamic facilitator who loves to work in a training environment. Besides his Career with SAAYC, Sicelo is also a devoted Christian, who studied Theology with an American Seminary called “Team Work”. He served as chairperson of the youth ministry of Healing Centre Family Church. As chairperson, he was responsible for the planning and monitoring church programs which are aimed at developing the young people holistically. He is a sought after speaker who is invited to speak in different churches and organization. Well known for his humorous, engaging and inspirational talks. His future plans include running a leadership training institute for young people. He says he has identified a void of leadership amongst young people. Young people don’t have leaders whom they can relate with. This creates problems in society since young people sometimes struggle to find direction and purpose.
